Summary of Test
ASTM D4595 is a testing standard for testing wide-width geotextile specimens including woven fabrics, nonwoven fabrics, layered fabrics, knit fabrics, and felts that are used for geotextile applications. Wide-width specimens may be prepared wet or dry. A Universal Testing Machine which can pull at a Constant Rate of Extension (CRE) is required in addition to grips with wide jaws to secure the sample.
This summary is designed to provide an overview of the test procedure as well as a description of the equipment needed to perform ASTM D4595. Before performing the test, it is critical to read the entire specification from the relevant ASTM publication.

- Secure both ends of the sample in grips that are sufficiently wide to grip the entire width of the sample.
- A slight preload may be applied to align the grips along a universal joint and remove slack.
- Begin the test by pulling at a Constant Rate of Extension specified in the standard.
- Stop the test once the sample has been ripped apart.
