Summary of Test
This ISO 21182 standard specifies a test method for determining the static and dynamic coefficients of friction of light conveyor belts. Utilizing a universal testing machine equipped with the coefficient of friction fixture designed according to ISO 21182, the coefficient of friction values are determined using the calculated frictional force and normal force applied to the test sample.
Before conducting ISO 21182, it is important to read the entire specification in the relevant ISO publication.
Recommended Equipment
Testing Procedure
- Cut a test piece from the full thickness of the conveyor belt in compliance with ISO 21182. Each test piece must be new and cannot be reused.
- Clamp the test specimen to the fixture and connect the metal cables to both the force transducer and the weighted sled. Place the weighted sled onto the test specimen so that there is ample room to drag the sled across the specimen.
- Adjust the speed of the machine to match the standard. There are different speeds for static or dynamic friction requirements:
- For dynamic coefficient of friction, ensure the path of motion is 300 mm.
- For static coefficient of friction, stop the procedure as soon as the test panel begins to move.
