The eXpert 8602-F543 Axial Torsion Testing Machine equipped with the MTESTQuattro controller is specifically designed to test metallic medical bone screws according to ASTM F543. Included with the system is the required fixturing for performing the four test methods outlined in Annexes A1-A4. MTESTQuattro comes preloaded with test procedures for each Annex. To run a test, the operator only needs to install the correct fixturing in the machine and select the appropriate test method from a menu.

About ASTM F543:
Annex A1: Test Method for Determining the Torsional Properties of the bone screws by clamping the screw along the threads and twisting it until it breaks.
Annex A2: Test Method for Determining the Driving Torque of bone screws by driving the screw into a test block and measuring the maximum insertion and removal torque within the first four revolutions.
Annex A3: Test Method for Determining the Axial Pullout Strength of bone screws by pulling on the head of a screw that has been previously twisted into a test block and measuring the maximum force to separate the screw from the test block.
Annex A4: Test Method for Determining the Self-Tapping Performance of a Self-Tapping Screw by measuring the required compressive force to initiate self-tapping while the screw is being twisted into a test block.
