ASTM D2370 | Organic Coatings | Tension Testing
ASTM D2370 is a simple test method used to determine the elongation, tensile strength, and elasticity of organic coatings. It is very similar to ASTM D882 in that very thin films are pulled in tension at a constant rate of speed.
Before conducting ASTM D2370, it is important to read the entire specification in the relevant ASTM publication.

- Prepare the test specimens as described in the test method, using ten samples per material.
- Set the grips at the desired gauge length and clamp the test specimen into the grips, making sure to keep the sample aligned with the direction of pulling.
- Apply the tensile force to the specimen at a constant rate of elongation based on the properties of the film being tested.
- Continue the application of the tensile force until rupture and record the breaking force and elongation.
Calculations:
- Elongation
- Tensile Strength
- Modulus of Elasticity
