ASTM D885 | Textiles | Tension Testing
ASTM D885 covers tensile testing and related properties of a conditioned or oven-dried specimen of yarn or cord made from manufactured organic-base fibers. This includes industrial filament yarns made wholly of manufactured organic-base fibers, cords twisted from such yarns, fabrics woven from such cords, and products that are made specifically for the use in the manufacture of pneumatic tires. Aramid fibers are commoly tested to this specification. ASTM D885 is a relatively simple tensile test whereby the material is pulled at a Constant-Rate-Of-Specimen Extension (CRE) until it breaks.
Prior to conducting ASTM D885, it is important to read the entire specification in the relevant ASTM publication.

The test procedure for ASTM D885 is straight-forward to perform. Load a conditioned or oven-dried sample into the yarn grips of a tensile testing machine. Follow the appropriate procedure as described in the standard.
